At Matthews Coach Hire we have done our best to create a web site that anticipates and satisfies our customers needs. With that goal in mind, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not answered below please contact our staff who would only be too happy to help you.

Do we accept free travel passes on our commuter service?

Matthews Coach Hire is delighted to accept the Department of Social Protection Free Travel Pass on the following routes:
Dundalk – Drogheda – Dublin (Parnell St & UCD) and return
Bettystown & Laytown to Dublin (Parnell St & UCD)
Dublin (Parnell St) to Bettystown & Laytown

Please note that as a participant in the Free Travel Pass scheme Matthews Coach Hire are obliged to ensure that the person presenting a Free Travel Pass is the same person whose name is stated on the Free Travel Pass.  As such drivers/inspectors may ask to see supporting ID including photographic ID.

How do you connect to the free Wi-Fi service?

When you select our network (Matthews_Free_WiFi) a login page should pop up. Tick the ‘I accept the terms and conditions’ box and then click connect. This should give you free Wi-Fi access for the duration of your journey.

The Wi-Fi service is provided by Fleetconnect. If you are experiencing problems connecting to the Wi-Fi service please call the customer support number provided by Fleetconnect on 0818 333 388.

Note: Over the last number of months we have been researching the issues passengers have experienced using the free Wi-Fi on our service. We now know what the problem is and how to solve it. The monthly GB limit is being reached earlier than in previous years due to video streaming and large file downloading on quite a few of the coaches. In order to solve this problem we are going to upgrade the onboard Wi-Fi which will make it faster. This may mean restricting video streaming and/or large file downloading but will ultimately offer fairer and more reliable Wi-Fi availability to all passengers. We expect this to take place around Christmas when the service is a little quieter to reduce the impact on passengers. (Nov. 1st, 2012)

What do I need to send when applying for a Tax Saver Commuter Ticket?

Your application form should be accompanied by 2 passport photographs.

How long will it take to process my application form for my Tax Saver Commuter Ticket?

We would appreciate if you could submit your application form and passport photographs two weeks in advance of the requested start date. This will allow time for postage, processing and return postage.

Do I need to reserve seats for Croke Park, The O2 Arena, Aviva Stadium or RDS services?

Croke Park
Our commuter service stops in Drumcondra, across from Quinn’s Pub, if there is a match on in Croke Park we will have extra coaches on standby for services.  However if there is a concert on in Croke Park, we would ask passengers to contact us in relation to what time they intend to travel at.  We appreciate your help in this as it will help ensure a smooth service for such events.  For return services we would recommend that passengers go to Parnell Street, as there may be traffic restrictions in place in Drumcondra.

The O2 Arena
In general we service all concerts at The O2 Arena.  We would ask passengers to contact us in relation to how many passengers are travelling and where they are travelling from.  We appreciate your help in this as it will help ensure the smooth service for events.  Services are subject to minimum numbers.  Please do check our Concerts and Events page for information on specific events and gigs.

Aviva Stadium
As we service the Aviva Stadium on an event-by-event basis seats for this service must be booked. You can see what events we are servicing on our Concerts and Events page. To book your seats call our office on 042 9378188.

RDS
As we service the RDS on an event-by-event basis seats for this service must be booked. You can see what events we are servicing on our Concerts and Events page. To book your seats call our office on 042 9378188.

How long will my ticket last?

Return and 10 Trip Tickets do not have an expiry date and can be used on any route, however they must be legible. Tax Saver Commuter Tickets have an expiry date printed on them, relating to the length of the ticket purchased.

Can I take a bicycle on the commuter service?

Yes, you can take a bicycle in the luggage compartment underneath. Please note that items are carried at the owners risk and we would recommend that you lock your bicycle to the internal frame of the coach so that it does not move during travel.
