Commuters in Louth and East Meath are set to link up with Ireland’s first integrated public transport ticketing scheme, thanks to Matthews Coaches.

The progressive local firm is the only private bus company in the country taking part in the trials for the innovative new Leap card scheme.

Matthews begin testing the product on their Bettystown to Dublin route this week, and Dundalk and Drogheda commuters will be able to avail of the service in early 2012.

When the system is fully launched, commuters purchasing a pre-paid Leap Card will be able to use it on any of Matthews’ services to and from Dublin and connect with Luas, DART, Dublin Bus and commuter rail services.

When the Leap Card is introduced, customers will be able to avail of savings on the standard journey price on all routes. There will also be a facility to ensure that their Leap card is never out of credit.
